Job Description
What’s the role?
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Adaptive Experimentation team within Etsy’s Experimentation Platform and Science initiative to build and maintain world class experiment infrastructure. Our team improves and expands Etsy’s capabilities to run and analyze A/B and non-A/B experiments at scale with particular emphasis on accelerating experimentation for Machine Learning powered products. As a Senior Engineer you will be a core contributor to business critical code for runtime experiment execution in collaboration with Applied Scientists, Software Engineers, and ML Engineers. This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager and the base salary range will be $184,000 – $216,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. What does the day-to-day look like?
Design, develop and implement highly scalable and maintainable systems.Work collaboratively with Experimentation Science to develop and deploy novel experiment strategies and analyses.Work with product teams to identify and automate away experimentation toil.Guide more junior engineers in their technical and architectural decisions, using thoughtful code reviews, mentoring, and project planning discussions.Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy’s discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
Qualifications
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
Have a passion for building data intensive products and tooling and understand good systems design.Experience with experimentation through building and supporting a platform.Proficiency with one or more programming languages (PHP, Python, Go, Java or other equivalent languages).You write understandable, testable code and you have an eye towards maintainability.Have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality, and are willing to work with and improve on code you did not originally write.You take the lead in scoping and implementing solutions to significantly complex problems.Growth mindset. You have a strong desire to learn and grow, and aim to drive the most business value for your customersYou are a strong collaborator and communicator and you make the engineers around you grow and learn.
