Job Description

The ambition of the Data Analytics group is to drive new commercial insight and analysis from data. In order successfully achieve this, the team will require a fundamental understanding of data pipeline and subject domain expertise. This will include the definition of core data models, the ability to perform large and complex queries across datasets and produce sophisticated visualisations. The group will drive the data quality agenda through prioritisation, measurements and coordinated improvements throughout the data lifecycle.

Role Purpose

To be a data owner for the Upstream domainTo ensure a good commercial awareness and a deep understanding on the relationships of the data, how it can be used or the impact of change in Natural Resources IndustryTo be expert users of the data platform and have the primary responsibility for sourcing, maintenance, quality and control of data for respective domain coverage areaTo work with junior colleagues to train, monitor in best practices and ensure their work is completed accuratelyTo implement quality control measures on our dataset to ensure data consistency and integrityTo build relationships with key stakeholders in the wider data team, Product, Research and SalesTo automate workflows with Data EngineersTo lead the highest priority projects and initiatives to improve data quality or processes, ensuring the team are operating towards the wider data vision.

Main Responsibilities

Core user of Data platform and ensures best practices are applied to utilise or maintain databases, tools, models and processes solutions from data sourcing to customer deliveryProvide specialist skills in data analysis, take responsibility for the ownership or manipulation of data and support junior colleagues in completing tasksData owner with awareness of commercial impact. Improve quality of data, demonstrate initiative and good understanding of database structureGood working relationships with Research, data colleagues and Product. Collaborate with Data Engineers to prioritise improvements to data ingestion and efficiency of processesFulfil data requests on time and with high quality, whilst following procedures and best practices. Pull together datasets to derive insight or analysisCollaborate with internal and external customers to fulfil complex data requests on time and with high quality to derive insight or analysis. Support and coach junior colleagues in this area.Work in an agile, collaborative manner to foster an environment of continuous improvement and incremental delivery

Qualifications

About You

Experience in working with data and demonstrate an affinity with numbersStrong regional or content domain expertise – gained in Upstream sector or via related degree experienceKnowledge of applying technology solutions to solve business problems, including web scrapingIntermediate skills in SQL and knowledge of databases such as NoSQL or SQL ServerAdvanced skills in a data visualisation package (such as Spotfire, PowerBI, Tableau, GIS)Experience in leading data projects autonomously being proficient at requirements gathering, documentation and stakeholder managementFull proficiency with MS Office – Excel (including Power Query)Experience of data analytics languages (such as linear or regression analysis)Strong communication skills, including mentoring more junior colleaguesProblem solving and excellent attention to detail and ability to work on large datasets accuratelyStrong organization and planning skills and the ability to manage own workload and that of others within sometimes tight timescalesCommitment to excellence and meeting high quality standards expected by our customersProactively encourages an inclusive working environment and demonstrate this on a daily basis
