Position Summary:
In this position, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our company initiatives through effective data analysis, tool development, and collaboration with lab scientists that ultimately lead to generating insight from large scale omics data. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in gene expression analysis, high throughput screening as well as building cloud architecture, databases and applications that make use of highly connected data. This candidate will also work with other groups to build data flow pipelines and implement data standards across the organization. The position will provide a unique opportunity to play a critical role in the advancement of FL89’s computational discovery and preclinical platforms, through the development of disruptive approaches for biotherapeutic drug discovery.
Key Responsibilities:
Build, maintain and distribute data solutions for our organization by collaborating with internal stakeholders. This includes:
Building Databases, data models & ETL pipelines
Analysis scripts & packages
Application development (Shiny/Streamlit/Flask etc.)
Collaborate with experimental teams: Work closely with experimental teams combining computational insights with experimental data. Collaborate on the identification, classification, and validation of our platform.
Think outside the box leveraging new and emergent technologies to ameliorate our existing tech, data and scientific stack.
Build, Train and Deploy ML models on our data to aid in insight generation.
Utilize cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, to manage data storage, computational tasks, and implement life cycle policies.
Contribute to scientific publications and codebase: Contribute to scientific literature through publications in high impact journals and conference proceedings. Contribute to widely used codebases in the field.
Ensure best practices in software engineering for reproducibility and data management.
Maintain F.A.I.R data management and reproducibility: Follow best practices in software engineering for data management and reproducibility, ensuring that the work is well-documented and easily reproducible.
Adaptability and fast-paced environment: Thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative startup environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to evolving project needs and timelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
Advanced degree (Ph.D, MS) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field.
7+ years of industry experience in bioinformatics, with expertise in gene expression from large scale RNA sequencing/ scRNA data, large scale data integration, application development, statistical analysis and machine learning development.
Demonstrated industry experience or academic achievement, as evidenced by publications in high impact journals, conference proceedings, or widely used codebase
Proficiency with workflow orchestration tools commonly used in the field (e.g Nextflow, snakemake)
Proficiency with cloud environments such as AWS and its services particularly:
AWS batch
Lambda
Athena
Glue
EKS
ECR
Proficiency with common bioinformatics tools as within the omics space.
Proficiency with using publicly available data sources (HPA, StringDB, TCGA, GTex etc.).
Experience with Statistical analysis tools in Python and R as well as data science app development (R shiny/Streamlit/Flask).
Knowledge of best practices in software engineering for reproducibility and data management skills.
Ability to work in and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
Management Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in leading and managing cross-functional teams in bioinformatics, data engineering, or related fields, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
Proven ability to mentor and guide junior team members, providing technical expertise and professional development opportunities.
Track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget, while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting stakeholder expectations.
Experience in project planning, resource allocation, and strategic decision-making to drive successful outcomes in genomics research and data engineering initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with graph database development and tooling (Neo4J, Neptune)
Experience in developing machine learning platforms using modern ML frameworks for deep learning (e.g. PyTorch, tensorflow, keras, MXNet) & deploying in services such as Amazon Sagemaker.
Strong familiarity with topics of protein and macromolecular structures and interactions with other proteins
Experience with agile methodologies.
